It is with great pleasure that we bring you the documentary of Initium House: the story of the Autism Support Program at Midwestern State University. For the next 50 minutes and 26 seconds you will be taken behind the scenes and hear from those responsible for the creation of the Autism Support Program. This film is about a university and special group of people who defied the odds, said yes when so many others said no, and the unwavering spirit that brought the Autism Support Program to life.

When I learned about the Autism Support Program that Millie Gore, Ed.D., and her team at Midwestern State University developed, it filled me full of hope. Dr. Gore has devoted her life to making the world a better place for those with special needs. Through the creation of Initium House and the Autism Support Program, Dr. Gore has created a legacy and model that universities around the world will follow.

Sheila Linnane, a staff member who works with special needs children at Kerr Elementary School in Allen, Texas, describes the school's Disability Awareness Simulation, a program designed to expose children to a wide range of physical and mental disabilities and to give them some insight into how it feels to be disabled.

Jean M. Walling is the founder of CLASS | BRIDGE and the mother of a child with special needs. With more than thirty years experience in special education, Jean shares the history and development of what has been the industry standard IEP software and curriculum since 1978.

Pam Newell describes her experience as a teacher in a public school district regarding the inclusion of special needs children in the classroom. She expresses that teachers need more training in order to be more open and comfortable with special needs children in the general education classroom.

Pam Newell's pediatrician refers the parents of newly diagnosed autistic children to her for advice. Pam offers some of that advice here to families affected by a new diagnosis of autism.
