We have an 7 yr old High Functioning Autistic Boy and when he recieves a gift that either he doesn't like or he already has he will verbalize is dislike or unhappiness with the gift. How can we teach him not to say those kinds of things?
It's important to understand that all of these therapies can only go so far without bio-medical intervention. Speech and ABA can only do so much when the cause of the problems goes untreated.
Our kids are metabolic train wrecks, and they need proper nutrition and diet. Upwards of 90% of children with autism have serious gut issues. The gut effects everything from speech to hand-flapping.
By correcting the diet you will find your children begin to sleep like NT kids. They can focus more on the speech and ABA therapies, therefore utilizing them better.
While in Illinois I didn't hear too much about ABA. Now that I'm in Texas, I hear much more. What are some of the pros and cons to ABA? How many hours per day did you/do you do this with your child? Please share your ABA stories!
