There may be a link between floride, brain abnormalities and IQ deficits scientists claim. Researchers believe that an overconsumption of floride can lower thyroid hormone levels. They theorize that decreased thyroid levels in pregnant women may adversely affect the neurological development of the fetus and lead to nuerological disorders such as autism and ADD.

Melatonin Provides Natural Help To Children With Autism

Many of you out there probably know about the wonders of melatonin already. Speaking personally, this was a lifesaver for my affected son Mason as he's had severe sleep issues since birth. A dose of melatonin in the early evening hours helped him fall asleep much faster and saved our sanity.

The only problem we found for us was that it only helped him FALL asleep. It didn't help him STAY asleep. Still at nearly 5 years of age he's not sleeping thru the night, but it's better than it used to be.

Blood Protein May Hold Clues to Autism

New research by Vanderbelt University Medical Center is expanding on the phenomenon of "hyperserotonemia" where high levels of serotonin are present in children with autism. They are able to now show a physcial basis for hyperserotonemia where a well known blood protein, integrin beta3, physically associates with and regulates the serotonin transporter (SERT). This protein controls serotonin availabilty, which when high levels of serotonin ocurr, mood swings can be a result.
