We can not travel the autism journey alone. Some say it takes a village to raise a child. When it comes to raising a child with autism, it takes a small army. Our children are unique, different, special, and require a different set of tools that we often pick up along the way. As a community, we share from our bag of tricks and ideas. After a few years of being involved in the autism community, you quickly get past the awareness phase because you're dealing with much more immediate, bigger, and pressing matters.


New Hampshire goverrnor signs insurance bill for autism

New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch has signed a law requiring insurers to cover more treatment programs for autistic children.

The law will requires insurers to cover behavioral speech and occupational therapy along with other covered therapies, medications and services when prescribed by a doctor.

A False Promise of Help

Iowa Autism Bill Stalled

Iowa's House legislators have stalled on passing a bill that would assist families in the state with medical therapy expenses associated with autism. Supporters for the bill are disappointed but determined to see it come to fruition and the bill remains alive for another year.

Autism Tsunami Imminent if Nevada Vetoes Bill

Supporters for Assembly Bill 162 turned out in big numbers yesterday. Nevada is one of the many states considering mandating insurance coverage for those affected by autism. As one supporter put it, Nevada will be hit by an "Autism Tsunami" if they choose to defeat the bill, forcing higher costs for adult care later. Opponents to the bill also turned out and noted that while a worthwhile cause, the timing because of the current economy is poor.
