Special Education To The NFL

The story of Lawrence Guy is full of hope, inspiration, and perseverance. His story also includes special education, learning differences, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, bullying, and frustration. Going from special education to a four year college and now to the NFL has been a dream come true. It was through the determination of Lawrence's father, his brothers, and a young man who refused to accept "No" as a way of life, that opportunities started to open up. When you dream big, work heard, and have people fighting for you, anything is possible.

Eating for Autism – Elizabeth Strickland

submitted by lawilcox

In my last post, I shared suggestions from Chapter 1 of Elizabeth Strickland’s book Eating for Autism about how to transition to a more healthy diet; with an acute focus on what must go. With this post, I want to share a little more from the book because it is overflowing with information that could be useful to anyone raising a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Elizabeth goes into great detail about how to make sure our kids get enough basic nutrients (think protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals and water). Autism Breakthrough

submitted by Dale

I have a program that has been recognized as a proven solution for special needs
children rather than a possible solution for what to do with children of special needs.
My approach is to correct learning behaviors or learning patterns rather
than to treat the symptoms of what appears to be the problem in the
child's mind and simply except the fact that special needs children will always
have special needs. My program is designed to stimulate a young mind with real world
stimuli through real world photographs, videos and real world voice interaction.

Disability Awareness Simulation

Sheila Linnane, a staff member who works with special needs children at Kerr Elementary School in Allen, Texas, describes the school's Disability Awareness Simulation, a program designed to expose children to a wide range of physical and mental disabilities and to give them some insight into how it feels to be disabled.

Metabolic Workup

Ana stresses the importance of getting a metabolic workup to check if the child is getting the proper nutrition needed to perform at their full potential.

Inspiring Children to Succeed

Ana talks about the importance of encouraging and inspiring kids to succeed despite their difficulties in life.

Treatment for Dyslexia and ADHD

Ana talks about the struggles that individuals with dyslexia and ADHD have and how treatment programs can address these issues. She then describes the benefits of the Interactive Metronome program and the Sensory Learning program.
