I'll Do My Own Way, Thank You Very Much.

submitted by Happy13

My oldest has autism. Just a few things I'd like to say on the subject. NOT ALL CHILDREN ON THE SPECTRUM ARE THE SAME. Look, I now I'm yelling, but hell, I'm getting so tired of people on all sides. As a parent you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I very rarily go to autism sites on the web because people are SO nasty or militant. Everyone thinks they have the answer and their answer is the only one. People for or against biomedical treatments, people who think you're abusing your child if you vaccinate, people who think you're abusing your child if you don't vaccinate.

Am I Over reacting?

submitted by thewildeman2

This is being posted in all my blogs because I think it's very important. It's original post is at Sheboygan Press dot com as that is the community I live in and where this happened. I hope you will give some of your own input in this challenge, even if only here.
If you were given advice by an organization with solid reputation for helping others, and it turned out to be in error, would you be upset? How about if you were the one who got to be berated and verbally punished for following that advice? How would that make you feel?

Medicare needs PR help

submitted by KentPotter

I just read the article "Medicare Would Rather Buy $8000 Computer than $150 iPhone App" found over at GIZMODO.com and just about tossed my lunch across the room. The thoughts that are running through my mind are moving to fast to type. This type of archaic thinking, behavior, decision making, and communication is absurd.

Advice to Newly Diagnosed

Pam Newell's pediatrician refers the parents of newly diagnosed autistic children to her for advice. Pam offers some of that advice here to families affected by a new diagnosis of autism.

Benefits of Mentoring

Pam shares the importance of mentors to parents of children with Autism. As a former classroom teacher and now the mother of three young children, she has seen first hand the strength that can be gained from having mentors in the community to help guide you during the journey.
