Utah - Budget Cuts Looming

Parents and their affected children may be negatively impacted as Utah lawmakers may have to make some tough decisions this year. With the desire to cut $400 million from this year's budget, and $800 million from the 2010 budget, state lawmakers may cut funding that as a result may shut down the "Giant Step" program that sees and treats over 200 children on the spectrum.

Utah Introduces Senate Bill 43

The State of Utah has introduced Senate bill 43 that will mandate insurance coverage for children affected by autism. The bill is expected to meet opposition on the floor as many will argue that it will cause a spike in insurance premiums.

Registry Of Utahns Affected By ASD To Be Created To Assist Researchers

In an effort to assist researchers in Utah, a registry of Utah residents affected by Autism will be created under HB 263. This registry will also serve families recently diagnosed in providing much needed information and resources. In addition to helping assist in providing services, there is also a public education awareness campaign working hand in hand.
