EEG

After The Results

We received good news yesterday....Sam's extended (9hrs 50min) EEG results came back "normal". In the blink of an eye, I felt a wave of elation and happiness. It's not complicated, no more tests, no more prodding or questions being asked of us while he sits there and wonders why everyone in the room is talking as if he isn't present. This chapter (for the time being) closed.
So what happens after the results are in? Does this mean he automatically stops having these small "spells"? The answer is no. Only time will tell us more.

EEG

I am at Medical City Hospital (I'm pretending it's Medical City Mall). The toilet brand is American Standard. I brought my Arthur books and my new Arthur movie, my Arthur doll, my Arthur Binky Goes Nuts movie, and toys that Mom brought. We are here for my EEG- it's going to read my brain. When Diana put the electrodes on it was really really bad. It was 355% pain because it was bothering me because I don't like it when people touch my head. Diana was nice to me. I have 27 electrodes on my head. We have to be here for 7 hours. I got to have Blue Bell ice cream with lunch.

6 Hour EEG

Sam is undergoing a 6 hour EEG today at Medical City in Dallas. He was not pleased to learn of this procedure. This is putting it lightly.

Bathing A Cat

Last Wednesday was a day we’d been waiting for…
Let me back up.
A few weeks ago we made a visit to Mason’s neurologist for an annual ‘hey let’s touch base and see where we are” type of appointment. We really like his pedi neuro. He’s got a great bedside manner, is patient, listens to us, and seems genuinely interested in Mason and his progress.

Are these seizures?

Sam has an amazing teacher who is keenly aware of children's needs and the learning differences our kids can be faced with. For years, we have known there might be a seizure issue that has been undetected. About 2.5 yrs ago, Sam had a one hour EEG performed. It was the sleep-deprived one that breaks your back trying to prepare for it. The EEG did not show any seizures at that time. We were told (on numerous occasions by the doctor) that a one hour EEG may not capture the reality of what is going on inside his brain.

It's All In the Mind

Dr. Fernando Miranda believes that there is more to diagnosing a child with autism than sitting on the floor watching how they interact with toys and other children. He believes many of the clues to a true diagnosis lie in brain imaging.
