Following up on an earlier story pediatricians are offering an opposing view of the American Heart Association's recommendation that children undergo EKG tests prior to taking prescribed ADHD drugs such as ritalin, adderall, and concerta. Pediatricians do not feel that heart scans are neccessary and that the American Heart Association's recommendation earlier this year was overzealous.
The American Heart Association recommends a thorough physical exam, including an EKG and finding out family history of heart problems, for those being prescribed many of the popular drugs used in combatting ADHD.
