More and more people are eliminating gluten from the normal diet. It is believe by many that by doing so, they are eliminating toxins from their body, and it has shown promise for some suffering from autism, celiac disease, ADHD, and other issues. It's been proven to help in cases related to celiac disease which affects approximately 1% of the U.S. population. Can it help others?

Pediatricians Nix Heart Test Recommendation For ADHD Drugs

Following up on an earlier story pediatricians are offering an opposing view of the American Heart Association's recommendation that children undergo EKG tests prior to taking prescribed ADHD drugs such as ritalin, adderall, and concerta. Pediatricians do not feel that heart scans are neccessary and that the American Heart Association's recommendation earlier this year was overzealous.

NIMH Funds University of Pittsburgh Project

A $3,000,000.00 grant has been awarded to the University of Pittsburgh and the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC from the National Institute of Mental Health. This grant will enable them to study treatments of ADHD in children with autism. Often children on the spectrum that also show symptoms of ADHD do not respond well to stimulant medications like children not on the spectrum.

Heart Tests Recommended For Children Before Being Prescribed ADHD Medications

The American Heart Association recommends a thorough physical exam, including an EKG and finding out family history of heart problems, for those being prescribed many of the popular drugs used in combatting ADHD.
