Released today is a report in the journal Nature detailing a recent study, the largest of its kind, that show that many people with autism share a common genetic variation. This study compared the genomes of thousands affected by the disorder. New technology made this discovery, that has long been theorized, possible, giving a lot of credible evidence.

Careful, guys...
Gotta be careful what headlines you believe. This takes a lot of reading, but if you're up for it:

We strive to be an unbiased source of information here at AutismSpot. Our only agenda is to support the community. However, everyone has an opinion (especially with autism!), so all of the articles to which we link and videos we create will involve people with their own personal biases. We hope to facilitate civil communication here, and we encourage everyone to post their own opinions like Jimsomnia. Thanks for speaking up!
Speaking Up
I very much appreciate AutismSpot's attempts to be an "unbiased" source of information. I suggested the link because the article challenges basic claims made in the original headline, which was distributed to many, many media outlets. There is a huge battle going on in the media that is not always apparent in the surface headlines; what sometimes seems like simple information can actually be very biased and propagandistic, and this is true on BOTH sides of the battle. There are huge forces of money and power at work behind the research and treatment of autism, and we are forced to educate ourselves for the good of our kids. I encourage everyone to read as much as they can manage and stay skeptical. My "speaking up" is done cautiously and with a great deal of consideration and research. Thanks for encouraging the discourse.
