where do we go from here-recovery.

submitted by johnkailove

Well, it happened. We went to the neurologist and my Kai no longer meets the criteria for pervasive development disorder. So what now? The neurologist said that if he came in to get tested the way he is today, they would just say that he has a minor speech delay. He still doesn't answer why questions and complex what questions, but he said that is normal for some 3yr olds...especially children who just acquired language. His social skills are normal for a 3 yr old. His playskills actually are fine now, he does line up things occasionally, but mainly a row of his animals.

Autism and Green

Okay, so this is where my husband thinks I'm going nuts.
So, my son and his sister have both been on the gf/cf/sf diet. Great, he's eating food he never would have touched before. His bowel movements are solid...for the first time ever!! He's saying sentences like crazy. He's more stubborn then ever, however i do think that's a symptom of being three though.

speech therapy

So, we had our speech evaluation, it's been a year since the last one. We actually had quit going to speech because it wasn't helping, nothing was coming of it. So, we quit and strictly did ABA at the time, the first day he tried to say ball--buh, kai actually said a sound other than the jargon he was speaking, two weeks later, Kai was talking.

The worst parent ever

So today, seriously, I feel like the worst parent ever.
Kai woke up last night at 2am-5am. Fine. No big deal, bundle of energy.

Autism in Girls?

submitted by johnkailove

So, how does one know if their daughter has autism?? I always worry about my daughter. She seems to be developing typically. Yet, something bothers me about her...and i can't put my finger on it. I really think, sometimes, I'm just over-precautious. However, the tell-tale signs are there. EXAMPLE:
-she walks on her tiptoes...and I mean walks on her tiptoes...about 90 % of the time. She just started doing this at about 19mos old.
-she started wringing her hands when new people are around. don't get me wrong, she warms up to them after awhile...but..the wringing is what gets me.

Today Butternut Squash...Tomorrow Guacamole

submitted by johnkailove

So, I've been trying food chaining with my son. Man, it's AWESOME!! I mean, really. Today, I made him butternut squash fries...and he LOVED them. So, that brings his veggies now to sweet potato, butternut squash, carrots, and peas. He has an aversion to touching gooey and mushy things. So, I'm making mashed cauliflower tomorrow...for play...not to eat. If he eats...then awesome!!

How do I even start this??

submitted by johnkailove

Okay, so I don't know where really to begin. First of all, I have two children, Kai and Johnnie. Kai has pdd-nos and my daughter, well she seems okay, hyper, but fine. I guess, normally I would start this off as, how I struggled to ge doctors to diagnose him. I'd known since he was 9 1/2 mos old that something wasn't right, and I had suspected autism. Anyway, I think most people have that same story...so I'll skip it...and fast forward to today, right now....and where we're at.
