If you have gone to Target or Walmart within the last few weeks, you probably noticed a huge change. Where there once stood grills, lawn chairs and pool floats, you will now see backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks and more. Oh yes, the school year is approaching. With a new school year around the corner, this typically brings a mix of emotions: happiness, sadness, nerves, worries and more.
If you are more on the nerves and worries side of the emotional rollercoaster that the new school year brings, we have two suggestions to help calm your fears and worries. If you have read a few of our blogs, we am sure you have found that we LOVE the author Ellen Notbohm.
“A Must Read” http://www.autismspot.com/blog/MUST-read
“What your Child Wants You Know” http://www.autismspot.com/blog/What-Your-Child-Wants-You-Know
The first thing that we suggest is for you to read “Ten Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew” by Ellen Notbohm. Even if you have already read this book once or twice, take the time to read it again.
The second thing we suggest is that you give your child’s new teacher(s) this book and/or “Ten Things Your Student With Autism Wishes You Knew” by Ellen Notbohm.
Both of these books are amazing. They provide us with great real life examples for us to learn from, they provide us with wonderful ideas, both old and new, on how to set our children up to succeed within life and school, but they also provide us with the opportunity to focus on all the positive things about your child.
