Our Life together living with Autism

Hi! I am the mother of a beautiful 15 year old girl on the spectrum. Frankie's strengths are reading, vocabulary, spelling and Music.
We live in Augusta, WV. Frankie attends public school with a One-on-One Autism Mentor Aide that is certified through the WV State Board of Education. Frankie receives PT, OT and Speech weekly during the school year as part of her IEP. Frankie also is a Title 19 Waiver receipt along with SSI.

It's been an up hill battle for services from the local school system, but finally it's working. Mostly due to me being a very strong advocate and doing my homework. It is not easy and almost a full time job in itself, but the ultimate pay off is terrific!

My fiance, Michael, has learn alot about Autism and the whole BIG picture being with us and living day to day with this condition. Michael has ADHD, but I feel he was mis-diagnosed and really has so many Aspberger's traits, in his own processing and social skills.

But we keep putting one foot in front of the other and it does get better, with time.

Frankie and we share our home with two male cats and a Big Rhodesian Ridgeback, named Ruffian (dog) and a Diva Weimaraner, named Kiera (dog).

We live in the country and have two acres to romp on. Frankie will be getting a trampoline and above ground pool this summer, (since we had just moved last July, from Public Housing).

Welcome!

Thanks for sharing your story lauraczr... Keep up the blog. I love to read about visitors to the site and learn from them. I am still relatively young on the autism journey. My son was diagnosed 4 years ago, so needless to say, I learn from those that have been on this journey longer than I have.
