Dad's Panel - An Invitation To Hang

Submitted by lawilcox on Mon, 09/05/2011 - 09:18.

AutismSpot's own Kent Potter invites men in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to attend a special meeting tomorrow night (Sept. 6, 2011) at 7pm, which will be hosted by the National Autism Association of North Texas. For more details about the location, time and how to RSVP, click HERE or see below.

An Invitation From Kent:
As fathers we play a critical role in the development of our special children. As fathers, husbands, employees, friends, mentors, coaches and sons, we wear many different hats. When we face the autism journey alone it can often be confusing, frustrating, and disheartening to not have others around us who know exactly what we are going through. In addition, we sometimes are not interested in holding hands and trying to provide therapy for one another. The way we approach life as men is often very different than how our wives, sisters, and daughters tackle the challenges that rise up. We are a unique breed and we need to connect so that we can share best practices, share ideas on addressing our children's behavior and social challenges, talk about financial matters and planning for the future. By no means can we solve the world's problems in a single night but we will sure do our best to address the top issues that you want to talk about.

As a father to a 10 year old son with Asperger's Syndrome I understand first hand what you are going through. As a serial entrepreneur, I have devoted a large portion of my digital agency and software company's time in creating AutismSpot.com and SensorySpot.com in order to provide information, education, and inspiration in an unbiased way from diagnosis through life to families and professionals in over 170 countries every month. We do this as a way of giving back to this growing community that all of us are a part of whether we like it or not. As I travel shooting films and meeting with Autism leaders like Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Tony Attwood, Dr. Ari Brown, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, and Dr. Robert Naseef, I am continually reminded of how important it is for fathers to connect. We must learn to communicate in a manner that resonates and positively influences the way we move forward.

I welcome you to a Dad's Panel - An Invitation To Hang. Please join us in this lively discussion and do not feel pressured to speak up. Come and listen if that's what suits you best. I have compiled a panel of fathers that have children that are young and children who are adults. I'll be posing questions to the panel and we will be opening up the floor for questions. This isn't going to be a group circle where you have to hold hands and sing. It’s men talking to men about the important issues of life.

If you would like to bring a friend, a relative, or neighbor to hang out so you don't have to come alone that's completely cool. Just remember it will be men only.

I look forward to meeting you and please share An Invitation To Hang with any other men you think might want to attend.

Your friend-
Kent
