We received good news yesterday....Sam's extended (9hrs 50min) EEG results came back "normal". In the blink of an eye, I felt a wave of elation and happiness. It's not complicated, no more tests, no more prodding or questions being asked of us while he sits there and wonders why everyone in the room is talking as if he isn't present. This chapter (for the time being) closed.
So what happens after the results are in? Does this mean he automatically stops having these small "spells"? The answer is no. Only time will tell us more.
This turns my attention to an old friend who is surely experiencing one of the most difficult times of his life. Our friendship began more than 20 years ago. We went to different Jr. High Schools but had a group of common friends. He is a servant, humorous, a talented visual artist and musical artist, he comes from a very close family and is in the early years with his own beautiful family. We shared an experience throughout High School that we'll carry with us for a lifetime. We were 2 of a 4 man group called Bell Boys at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas. Although we attended different universities (I went to Baylor and he went to Abilene Christian) we received very similar degrees. Our lives moved in different directions. Now, years later we have even more in common than we did all those years ago back at LH. Each of us started companies that combine our passion to create and our calling to serve.
I have seen Rob's wonderful family numerous times over the past few years. When they happened to move to the city we live in, our run-ins have increased and often occur at Life Time Fitness. The funny thing is that Rob is either working or traveling and we haven't set eyes on one another in a very long time. The beauty of technology is how you can reconnect and begin taking part in someone's life with tools like Facebook and Twitter. Some time ago, Rob and I reconnected over Facebook & Twitter and now stay connected in our own way. I admire Rob for many reasons. One reason in particular is how Rob has opened his heart and let others witness his personal walk with Jesus Christ. Rob has put together a talented and dedicated team across four different media companies who help to spread the message of hope to millions around the world.
Today I woke up to a Twitter from Rob that simply said:
"...at the office. praying for today. Haley is having her heart MRI... they found a mass above her heart."
For those who have experienced this type of fear and uncertainty this message hits especially close to home. It's my prayer that Haley will receive good news today and that the Thomas family can rest more comfortably tonight. There are no perfect words to say at this time. We can pray and let the family know they are in our prayers and thoughts throughout the day. Our community spans across more than 100 countries and there are hundreds of thousands of you reading this who have experienced the fear and uncertainty similar to what Rob's family is going through.
They will know more after the results come back.
Our prayers are with you.
